The Electric Railways Athens-Piraeus (ISAP) embarket into a very ambitious program of rebuilding all their stations in time for the 2004 Athens Olympics.

Seen here is the Nea Ionia rebuilt station as one of the latest Siemens-built electric trains enters from Kifisia. In the background one can discern an old trainset parked as a reserve between the up and down lines.

For the needs of the Olympic Games the ISAP ordered 20 new, six-parts EMUs. It based on the MAN EMUs from 1984 with some little changes. There are made in licence from Siemens/ADtranz at the Hellenic Shipyards in Greece. In summer 2002 the ISAP got the first units of this order, the last is expected at the end of the year 2003.
