Locomotive 61-006-3 in the Poduene depot in Sofia. Locomotives of class 61 are not very common in Bulgaria and this has gained them the attention of railway fans. Manufactured by Skoda, these multi-purpose electric locomotives are used for shunting duties, rotation freight service in some factories and on short passenger routes. Behind 61-006-3 is its more conventional sibling 44-076-8 - again from the Skoda factory in Plzen but a much more common sight in Bulgaria. 3 April 2004. The electric shunter 61 013.9 is a hard-working machine at the station of Plovdiv as it constantly has to rearrange passenger cars for the trains departing from the station. On this photo the locomotive is seen in front of the stretch of cars for the fast train Plovdiv - Sofia. BDZ ordered 20 modern electric shunting locomotives which have been finished by Skoda in 1991/92. The political changes delaid the delivery and they entered in BDZ service in 1994.
